Cardboard Safari at the UVA E-Cup

Last Friday, November 13, Cardboard Safari President Chris Jessee had the pleasure of serving as a judge for the Entrepreneurship Cup at the University of Virginia. Thanks to his long history in the creative and business worlds, Chris had the perfect background to guide these young self-starters during the competition.

The UVA E-Cup works to give students the chance to create and present their own original answers to society’s unanswered questions. For many budding entrepreneurs, this is one of the first steps toward breaking into the professional world. The Cup is put on the Darden School of Business, and is broken down into three stages.  Last Friday’s event wrapped up the first portion, Concept, by selecting 25 winners out of 50 initial presenters. These winners will go onto the Discovery stage where they will compete for 5 spots in the final round, Launch.

This first stage asked participants to submit an idea under one of five categories: Consumer/Business-to-Business, Health Care, Social Entrepreneurship, Science/Engineering, and UVA Wise (a UVA off-shoot located in Wise, Virginia). Chris helped to evaluate the Consumer/Business-to-Business presentations. 5 competitors in each of the 5 categories were chosen to continue on in the contest and to win $1000 toward their projects.

We’re looking forward to seeing where these ideas go. Follow these talented students on the UVA E-Cup website and catch of glimpse of the future.
